The Communication, Information Technologies, and Media Sociology section of the American Sociological Association (CITAMS) makes five annual prizes to individuals researching and building community in the topic areas of the sociology of communication, media systems, the social aspects of computing, the internet, new media, social media computer networks, other communication and information technologies, and the the design and use of technology in teaching and research, including research on the properties of big data. The CITAMS Book Award category recognizes an outstanding book on a topic relevant to the section.
